Paying for an activity
If your squad uses Squaddle for payments, you'll be sent a payment link with your invitation or asked to pay to confirm your place. This article explains how payment works and what to do if you have questions about a charge.
Payment settings
Your squad organiser chooses how payments work for each activity:
Anytime
You'll receive a payment link with your invitation, and you can pay at any point before or after the activity. This option works best for small groups with a high degree of trust, where organisers are happy for members to build up a small debt and settle up later.
Upfront
You'll need to pay immediately to confirm your place – tapping 'In' sends you a link to complete payment, and your place isn't secured until you've paid. This option tends to be favoured by larger groups where organisers want to make sure spots are filled by members committed to playing.
How to pay
- 1.
- Mark yourself 'In' for an activity. If payment is required, we'll direct you to a secure payment link to pay online.
- 2.
- Tap 'Pay now' on the payment page. The page will look slightly different depending on whether the activity uses Anytime or Upfront payments, but the process is the same. You'll be directed to Stripe to complete payment.
- 3.
- Once payment is complete, you'll see a confirmation page. Stripe will also send an email receipt to the address you provided at checkout – even if you signed up to Squaddle via WhatsApp only.
What payment methods are accepted?
Squaddle uses Stripe for payment processing, which supports all major debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay and Onelink.

If you didn't receive a payment link, or can't find it, you can:
- Make payment online via your Schedule – just tap on any activity to pay for it individually.
- Reply 'pay' to Squaddle on WhatsApp to be sent a link detailing everything you owe across all activities.
- Ask for a payment reminder from your squad organiser – you'll receive a link that itemises all outstanding fees.
Late dropout charges
If you drop out less than 24 hours before an activity and your organiser has 'Charge late dropouts' enabled, you'll still be charged – even if you don't attend the activity.
If you've paid in advance, you won't receive an automatic refund. If you haven't paid, the late dropout charge will be added to your outstanding payments.
You should mark yourself 'Out' more than 24 hours in advance to avoid a penalty. See Dropping out of an activity for more on how dropouts and refunds work.
Settling outstanding fees
If you haven't paid for an activity before it starts, you'll have an outstanding payment on your account. There are two ways to see what you owe and settle up:
- Reply 'Pay' to Squaddle on WhatsApp.
- Ask your squad organiser to send you a payment reminder.
Via either method, you'll get a link to an itemised summary of everything outstanding, which you can pay off in one transaction.

Why do I have an outstanding payment when I've already paid?
If you've recently paid for an activity but still have outstanding payments on your account, there may be older activities with unpaid dues. Reply 'pay' to Squaddle on WhatsApp to see an itemised list of everything you owe, or ask your squad organiser to send you a payment reminder. If you're not sure which activity a payment was assigned to, contact us and we can check for you.
Disputing a payment
If you think you've been charged in error, check which activity the payment relates to first. Most disputes turn out to be a late dropout fee or a charge for an activity you forgot you'd marked yourself 'In' to.
The simplest way to do this is to view the itemised list of outstanding payments, as described above.
You can also search for your email receipt from Stripe, which is sent automatically with the subject, 'Your Squaddle Ltd receipt'. You'll find the payment date, and the activity to which the payment relates to.
If you still think something's wrong, speak to your squad organiser in the first instance, who can investigate, or contact us if you need help.
How do refunds work?
If you've paid in advance for an activity that you don't attend, your eligibility for a refund depends on your squad's payment settings, and when you drop out. See Dropping out of an activity for more information.
